Note: Maria the merchant’s calf circumference at its widest point is 42.5 cm. In size 43, Maria could just about fasten the shaft by slowly easing up the zipper. Once on, the boots fit like a glove! 😊 According to Maria’s experience, 42.5 cm is therefore more or less the maximum calf circumference for size 43.

Maria the merchant’s medium-width feet – details:

• Not a high instep and not a low instep
• A “flipper” shape, meaning the toes are almost equally long, with no pronounced curve at the toe line 😊
• A slightly rounded toe box suits best; very pointed shapes often don’t have enough room for Maria’s big toe
• Usually wears size 43, with a medium-wide G last or a wide H last
• In barefoot shoes, typically size 42, because there’s enough room for the toes
• Length of the longer foot: 26.2 cm
• Width at the ball of the foot: 11 cm

For Maria, size 43 felt just right in terms of width, while size 42 was snug. The length would have been better for Maria in size 42; size 43 may be slightly too long. However, for a wider foot, Maria would choose size 43, as the boots otherwise fit her really well. And of course, the leather will stretch in width.
